Yesterday was my last day at Google. Today is my first day working for myself. So, what’s the plan?
Before I get to the plan, let me clearly state the goal.
The goal is to attain financial independence by making products. Products people are willing to pay for. Products with a subscription-based freemium model. Products generating a recurring revenue stream.
Now that I have stated the goal let us come to the plan.
The timeframe is 4-5 years if I keep working consistently at a good pace. I will split them into semesters. Each semester will have some tasks and themes.
The first semester is:
I will maintain a daily log with things to do and things that got done that day. Also, the amount of time I worked on that day. I will review these things every Friday and at the end of every month. I will evaluate myself every six months and either fund myself for the next semester or start looking for a job.
This decision will depend on the following:
As I will be coding, whatever I make will add to my resume if I start looking for a job.
I will follow *a-startup-a-month* strategy loosely. The initial few products might take more than a month as I will do other one-time tasks like making an investment plan etc. It will take some time for me to set up my system, get in the flow and, get familiar with ClojureScript (I have not done any front-end programming till now), do deployments on the cloud for the first time. I will be happy if I make just one product in the first semester and become capable of making one each month after that.
So that is the plan.
